CRS FINAL EVALUATION OF SAVING LIVES AND PROTECTING LIVELIHOODS

Lebanon, India, & USA 2011

Background: CRS maintains an agency-wide “Saving Lives, Protecting Livelihoods” emergency strategy and initiative.  The goal of the SLPL initiative is to reposition CRS so that it becomes one of the most innovative and effective emergency prevention, preparedness and response organizations in the world.

Requirement: An independent and rigorous performance evaluation of the SLPL.

GEG Contribution: A three-person GEG team supported CRS with a utilization-focused formative and learning-oriented evaluation to help guide Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in future planning, program development and learning opportunities. The evaluation helped CRS to move even closer to their goal of being one of the most innovative and effective emergency prevention, preparedness and response organizations in the world. This work included an in-depth analysis based on surveys, field assessments (Lebanon and India), focus group work, key informant interviews, creation of an evaluation website and video documentation. This analysis served as the basis for practical recommendations to further programs and operations toward CRS’ goal.
