DESIGN AND DELIVERY OF TRAINING FOR EMERGENCY ROSTER

Thailand 2010-2011

GEG DESIGNED AND delivered aN INTERACTIVE training TO IMPROVE PLAN’S CAPACITY TO RESPONSE TO CRISES

Background: As an organization, Plan International recently re-launched its roster for emergency deployments to ensure its ability to provide surge capacity to Country Offices during crises. By means of this training, Plan sought to build capacity across the organisation at Country Office, Regional Office, National Organisation and International HQ.

Requirement: Design and deliver a dynamic, interactive training to allow Plan staff to apply their existing competencies, learn new skills, and test themselves via scenarios appropriate to their working contexts. The primary focus of the training was to create customized teaching and learning activities to strengthen Plan International’s key mandate – to address the needs and challenges faced by girls and women in disasters.

GEG Contribution: GEG conducted a five-day training for hand-selected members of the Plan Emergency roster in Thailand. This case-based training focused on building capacity in the strategic areas of: gender, age, ethnicity and culture in emergencies; safety & security, health and well-being; communications; and Disaster Risk Management (DRM)Tools. All modules were delivered in coordination with Plan’s strategic approach to DRM.
