TRICKLE UP

HUMANITARIAN FIELD SECURITY TRAINING

2018

DESIGN AND DELIVERY OF HUMANITARIAN FIELD SECURITY TRAINING FOR TRICKLE UP

Background: As part of Trickle Up’s Duty of Care responsibility to staff deploying overseas, the organization must ensure that employees have a requisite understanding of the skills, abilities and tactics needed to operate safety in challenging operating environments.

Requirement: Trickle Up identified the need for a security and safety training to take place during the Fall 2018 for a targeted group of Trickle Up employees who have and/or likely will deploy to higher risk locations. During the training, participants would learn and apply necessary security and safety skills for future field deployments including.

GEG Contribution: GEG was contracted to specifically design this Humanitarian Field Security training which entailed a 3-day simulation exercise where participants learn security protocols and procedures through hands on experience. This course allowed staff members to learn and apply necessary security and safety skills for future field deployments. The course ensured that they have a requisite understanding of the skills, abilities and tactics needed to operate safety in challenging operating environments. The course was tailored to a range of abilities, as some participants had humanitarian deployment experience while others did not. The main skills participants learned and practiced over the 3-days included: safety and security, situational awareness, austere medicine, negotiation and risk mitigation while on field deployments.

“GEG’s 3-day course provided invaluable security training to several members of the Trickle Up team, both those who face risk every day during their work in the field as well as senior management that has the responsibility for ensuring that we fulfill our Duty of Care obligations throughout our organization.  GEG trainers were excellent and the curriculum well organized.  As we have security training and advice needs in the future, our first call will be to GEG.”
