The GEG headquarters is near Winchester, Virginia with a global team based all over the world. GEG currently has a global team of 60+ people (full-time and part-time personnel).

Overview

GEG has ongoing, consistent human resources and talent management requirements. The HR Lead is the organizational focal point for all HR-related systems, processes and functions. S/he will report to the GEG CEO and work closely with the GEG Director of Talent/Recruiter, the Finance team and the Field Program Directors.

Scope of Work

The HR Lead is responsible for overseeing and improving all HR functions at GEG. Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the primary HR contact for employees and consultants

  • Creating and maintaining standard operating procedures and workflow documentation

  • Partnering with compliance, finance, and recruiting teams to streamline HR processes

  • Recommending policy and procedural improvements to management

  • Managing employee agreements and consultant contracts, including drafting, execution, tracking, and updates

  • Supporting the development and communication of GEG’s benefits package

  • Developing performance and professional development strategies, including training resources

  • Leading onboarding and orientation for all new staff and consultants

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations

  • Supporting the finalization of the employee handbook

  • Managing the HR email account and ensuring timely responses

  • Owning and maintaining secure digital storage systems for HR files and confidential information

  • Backstopping the Director of Talent/Recruiter on recruitment activities as needed

  • Supporting strong client satisfaction and organizational performance

  • Remaining accessible to staff as the HR specialist and coordinating with other HR team members as necessary

  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education and Experience: BS 2+ years, MS 0+, or HS 6+

  • At least 5 years of HR management experience

  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, policies, and systems

  • Experience with contract employment and staff onboarding

  • Proven HR operations experience in humanitarian crises

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Commitment to humanitarian principles

  • Strong team collaboration, interpersonal skills, and relationship-building abilities

  • High degree of personal responsibility, motivation, and adaptability

Desirable:

  • 2+ years of field experience in humanitarian emergencies

  • Previous U.S.-based HR experience

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. labor law

Working Conditions

This consultancy is remote, ideally full-time or close to full-time, with an expectation of being available for at least 50% of standard Washington, DC working hours.
